The Ten
Ten volunteers will be traveling to Indonesia this week. These are ten amazing people who have skills that they plan to use while serving at the Hohidiai School. The school is two years old and has around 50 children. It is taught a half day in English and a half day in Bahasa Indonesia. The children are being exposed to two languages and they are doing very well. The school is accredited and seeks a very high academic level.
The Ten will leave the West Coast of the U.S. and will eventually land on an airstrip cut out of the jungle during WWII. The Ten will serve for two weeks at the School where they will train the staff and engage in the day-to-day schedule of each classroom.
The Ten are all from the cold arctic. It is in the middle of the winter and they will be serving virtually on the equator. This will be a dramatic contrast in weather but I know they will find the children eager to learn and the staff open to new ideas and instruction. The many days of preparation and days in flight will give the children more learning tools and encouragement. The Ten leave the land of the midnight sun to give their skills and abilities to offer these little ones a better future.
