Baasee Cho
Baassee Cho is an Athabaskan phrase that means a deep thank you. It is set apart from the general thanks to express a warm and special thank you. That is the name given to the new house built on our base. The funds to build it were given by a very loving group in Alaska.
The house is being occupied by an amazing couple–Dr. Leo and his wife, Dr. Deni. Dr. Leo and Dr. Deni will be expecting their first child in April. We are thankful for their gifts and their commitment to working in our hospital and clinic. They both could be making generous incomes but have chosen to give their lives to the least and lowest.
Dr. Leo recently performed a needed surgery on a paraplegic. This 17 year old boy had fallen out of a coconut tree while he was harvesting the copra for the coconut oil harvest. He broke his back and was paralyzed below his waist. He had a very bad infection that needed immediate attention. Dr. Leo was assisted by Dr. Deni and a visiting American Physician. The procedure went very well and even got a thumbs up by the American Doctor.
I believe we can say Baasee Cho, a deep thank you, for the heart and skill of Dr. Leo and Dr. Deni. We can also say thank you to the many good people who gave to provide this home for them to live.
