Astronaut
She is eight years old but knows what she wants to be. Lilly (not her real name) has a dream to become the first Indonesian astronaut. Lilly is an exceptionally bright girl. She would be close to genius and is an academic wiz. She continues to amaze people by her aptitude and awareness of the world around her. Lilly was abandoned by her mother and father and left at the Hohidiiai base. She has a very warm personality and does stand out in the crowd.
Poverty and abandonment is not fertile ground for dreams. Lilly is an example of the hope that is given to the children in the Hohidiai School. You must have hope and opportunity in order to dream these big dreams. She has a dream and we will help her move closer to this goal. Lilly said, “If I cannot become an astronaut, then I will become a dentist”. The blessing is that she can dream.
On a recent visit to the Hohidiai School a volunteer ,from the U.S., taught a lesson on flight. A lesson about aerodynamics was taught with Lilly in the front row. She soaked up more exciting information and sat wide-eyed the entire time. The 40 children in the class were all given a balsa wood airplanes. They took markers and designed their own planes. Imagine 40 planes in flight all around the soccer field. It was a sight to behold. This was a day when dreams were given wings.
