Step By Step
I remember staring out the window in grade school hoping the day would end and summer would come soon. I know that far away look very well. I just returned to the U.S. after taking a team to work in the Hohidiai School. The children are advancing very well. It is a step-by-step process. I noticed the children who were struggling the most were getting a lot of after school help and they are moving forward and even the toughest children are seeing breakthroughs.
There are a number of children in grade two who are very advanced academically. They are doing their school work in English and are eager to learn. I can see the brightness in their eyes and how they sit while being taught new ideas.
The team that came to help in the school was just amazing–they were ready to work and positive. Emily has a master’s degree in education and was the leader for our team. She was just amazing as she stepped in and led a classroom and then later did in service training for the other teachers. The team just wanted to be a blessing and we really enjoyed the time with the children.
The day before we were leaving the children put on a farewell for the team. The children danced and honored the team. There were a few speeches and a few tears. We saw a lot of things but I did not see that far away look in any of the children. They were eager to learn and the team was so blessed to be a part of their education.
